Big Savings at Blackland Lakes Leisure Centre

Reznor’s Air Mixing ducted air distribution system being a perfect choice for decor and user comfort; in keeping with Blackland Lakes Holiday Park.
The development of a luxury swimming pool at the Blackland Lakes Holiday and Leisure Centre in Calne, Wiltshire required an air distribution system for the fast and even distribution of ducted air, whether heated or conditioned.
The system had to take account of some specific operational parameters peculiar to swimming pool environments – not the least being the problem of condensation. This can make the tiled surrounds slippery while the absorption of chlorine vapours from the pool water turns it into a weak acid capable of degrading metal, glazing and paintwork. User comfort at all times is also paramount, while the need to complement the bright, welcoming decor of the pool area design was an additional requirement of this holiday-based facility.
Reznor’s Air Mixing ducted air distribution system was selected and a central perforated duct installed along the length of the pool area. The ducting’s availability in a wide choice of colours meant that a decorative match was not a problem.
Air Mixing passes air through the duct work at high speed to produce an immediate mix with the room air without the side effects typical of conventional air distribution systems such as turbulent motion or de stratification.
Condensation on cold surfaces has been eliminated and a uniform temperature maintained throughout the facility.
Air Mixing’s installation cost was up to three times less than a standard metal duct work system which would have required galvanising with a special treatment to protect it from corrosion. This cost saving was diverted into a more fuel-efficient air handling plant which, it is estimated, has led to further operational savings of around £15,000 per year.
The plastic duct work is maintenance free, fireproof, dust-repellant and able to resist deterioration engendered by UV rays and acid vapours.
