Nortek keeps breaking own safety record

Thanks to years of collective effort, Nortek Global HVAC Belgium nv was able to reach 600 days without lost time accident. Just a few weeks ago, the previous record of 579 days, which dated from 2010, was finally broken.

Quality, Environmental, Safety and Health manager Dries Decuypere explains: “A day without lost time accident or LTA is only counted when there is a certain minimum employee presence, which may vary due to the seasonal nature of our products. This means that the real number of days is much higher. We haven’t had an LTA in over three calendar years!”

This excellent result could only be achieved after years of commitment by the entire workforce, and by increasingly emphasizing safety culture day in, day out.

Key to this are awareness and reward. This is why the dining area has a sign displaying the reached number of days. Every 100 days and every safety milestone is celebrated with a surprise treat for the employees.
