Courts Save with Condensing Heaters

Courts is one of the UK’s leading home furnishing retailers. It has over 30 out-of town stores across the country, many built over the last few years as their business has expanded.

The company operates a rigorous energy efficiency programme in all parts of its business. Since customer and employee comfort is paramount and heating therefore forms a major part of Courts’ overhead costs, the company is constantly looking for systems that minimise energy usage and drive down overhead.

Expansion plans include the construction of out of town ‘shed’ stores in key locations around the UK. These hangar-like shops have up to 2,600m² floor area and roof heights up to 13 metres at the apex. A priority for Courts is to ensure the shed stores are as energy-efficient as possible by installing a heating system with a highly effective output.

In line with Courts’ energy efficiency criteria, Reznor ceiling-mounted warm air condensing heaters have been installed in over 30 of the company’s out-of-town stores, and are scheduled to be fitted in all new - build ‘shed’ stores.

Reznor is the only company to manufacture a warm air condensing unit heater. The heaters have an operating efficiency of 92 per cent (based on gross c.v.), Which is 10 per cent more than any other warm air heater.

The condensing technology utilises an additional heat exchanger which extracts heat from the products of combustion before they are expelled into the atmosphere. The extracted heat pre - heats the air before it passes across the main heat exchanger, reducing energy usage as a result.

The Reznor condensing units have the capacity to heat very large spaces effectively while economising on energy usage, making them the ideal solution to Courts’ energy efficiency specification.

The company is now saving 30 per cent on its fuel bills, and is finding that it can achieve the same level of comfort in its stores by installing fewer heater units. Where four heaters were needed previously, only three Reznor condensing heaters are now required.

The heaters also answer Courts’ requirement for ease of installation, space saving and low maintenance.

Following the installation of Reznor heaters and the overall energy efficiency programme, Courts has reduced its heating and lighting overhead to half the industry average.
