Reznor Downflow Unit Strikes a 'cord'

Richards of Aberdeen, a leading manufacturer of high quality yarn for carpet making, took over an old bakery in the city and refurbished it as a modern manufacturing plant. The existing heating was inadequate for the building’s new purpose and an alternative, fuel efficient solution was required.

 

The 9,300m² building consists of three long, interconnected sheds that now house four production lines, where loose fibre (called sliver) is spun into continuous yarn and wound on to cones.

 

It is important to Richards’ quality standards and the health and safety of employees to avoid generating airborne fibre and dust particles within the factory. A draught-free environment was a pre-requisite of the heating system.

 

A total of 30 Reznor V3 high efficiency in direct gas warm air heaters were suspended in the roof apex at 6.5m, well clear of the production lines. The V3 down flow units direct warm air to exactly where its needed.

 

The Reznor V3 downflow unit offer economy, ease of installation and excellent heat distribution over a large area. Warm air can be directed to the lowest 2 metres of the building, providing effective warmth for personnel, without creating air movement where fibres are being processed.

 

Each unit can be controlled separately for maximum flexibilty maintaining a constant 20 Degrees comfort temperature within the factory.

 

The V3 heater incorporates ‘third generation’ heating technology pioneered by Reznor, featuring a high efficiency four-pass heat exchanger and lo NOx single burner. The heater operates at around 93% efficiency - the highest in its class.
